As I get it, the universe really, is made of data.

Stop and think about it, the physicists have been telling us atoms are connected and they exist based on where you document them. They tell us that when one of a pair is modified, i.e., its "data" is changed, its pair where ever it is is changed instantly. I've kinda always had a conceptual problem with that idea.

But, if the universe is really, as the author above claims, just "data" or information, then, that sure makes more sense.

If true, it seems to me the idea of us developing into Captain Kirks exploring the universe in our space going ships like ocean captains of old really won't be needed, at least for long. In a universe, that is billions of years old, with, what is the right astronomical number at the moment - trillions - of planets that might have some kind of life, surely there is some life here and there. And if there is some, surely some crawled out of their intellectual caves more than a measly 10,000 to 20,000 years ago (the mere bat of an eye in universe time without doubt). So, maybe being a thousand years "ahead" of us, or 100,000 - or half a billion, they have learned how to simply control the thing we are just beginning to see as the "everything" - data - and can write or re-write information, bits and bytes to suit themselves. Go where they want, have what they want, be what they want.

Why go cruising through space with all the time that would take, all the hazards it would entail, if you can just re-write data here, that is immediately reflected "there" and be there?

In short, the little green men might be little and green, but its more likely they are going to arrive with a data modifying computer device than a zooming spaceship?

I'm pretty sure Kirk would be a little disappointed to learn he's technologically obsolete before he can even get in his first galaxy cruiser. ;)
