Ring of Mushrooms??

Postby Mightyquinn » December 10th, 2011, 6:28 pm

I was out in the yard today spot spraying some weeds with a WBG/MSMA mix and while I was in the back yard I noticed that I had a lot of mushrooms and they seems to be growing in a large ring. In the photo that was taken last Spring, you can see the ring in the lawn and that is roughly the same area that the mushrooms are growing right now!! Any ideas on what it could be or how to solve it????

Probably fairy ring. I've got one in my lawn.

There are a couple types. One releases excess nitrogen and makes a greener ring.

Then there are what you and I have, one that makes the soil hydrophobic.

Don't think there is anything to kill them, but there are things we can do to minimize them. Namely wetting agents. Google Primer soil surfactant. I've been meaning to bring it up here because I get confused with the different types of surfactants.

Thanks MW for the info, that spot recovered fine once the temperatures started to rise so I am not that concerned but would still like to do something about it. I was planning on detaching the lawn this spring before I top dress, so hopefully that should help alleviate most of it.

Yeah, I've read somewhere that they don't always return after they show themselves, too.
