Re: grass/weed I.D.
The pictures aren't close enough for a good ID, but here's what jumped into my head when I saw the pictures: Sedges. Wash the dirt off of the roots and see if there is anything like little "nutlets" in the roots. Also, roll the stem near the base and see if it has a "triangular" feel to the stem.
Does the problem grass grow much faster than the rest of the grass?

I will try to get closer photos, it does have a triangular feel (sedges have edges) do not see any "nutlets"
in the roots it is growing at maybe double the rate of grass. I just put dimension down maybe week and a half ago this popped up maybe 4 days ago

That looks like Nutsedge to me. I'd spray your entire lawn with Sedgehammer. Now is a good time to be doing so. Sedgehammer is easy on Bermuda and will kill the crap out of Nutsedge. You don't want that stuff getting a foothold in your yard.
Nutsedge is trying to store food for the upcoming winter. Why not give it a good drink of Halosulfuron?

Will Image work as well (easier to locate)?

Image works. Check eBay for the Sedgehammer, too.
My experience with nutsedge is that it is an ongoing battle, but the products on the market will give you the upper hand.
I'm still not convinced that is nutsedge, though.
Go pull another plant. Cut the stem and it should be a triangle shape. No ifs, ands, or buts. There is no mistaking a sedge.

They have a triangular feel and the ones I pulled today do have nutlets. I will cut one tomorrow to make sure.

NEVERMIND!!!! My concern that it wasn't nutsedge was mainly because I thought you said in an earlier post that it didn't feel triangular.
I just looked back and see that I clearly misread.
Please disregard my earlier doubts. If the stem is triangle shaped, you have sedge on your hands.

What are your temps like right now? Still mowing 2-3 times a week? You don't want to use image during periods of slow growth, or close to dormancy.

It has been cooler the last couple of weeks mowing has slowed down considerably about once every 5 days, which crazy as it sounds makes me sad. I also had to raise mower height once lawn thickened up my yard is to uneven I plan on leveling next spring. Sorry off subject is sedgehammer okay to use during slow growth.

Sedgehammer is one of the milder herbicides on the market. Follow the directions on the label and you shouldn't have any problems.
In sprayed earlier this year on my newly seeded lawn and experienced no ill effects. I measured out spray for 1000 sq. ft. and sprayed 1300 sq ft in actuality. Got good kill and a few returning plants, but next year I'll be able to spray twice. Hopefully, I'll eradicate that crap for good next year.
Image will work also, but I'd get and use Sedgehammer given a choice. Use a nonionic surfactant with Sedgehammer, I used Jetdry.

Nope. While the break from mowing is welcome, it still comes at the price of a little sadness and boredom with all the newfound time on your hands. Totally normal. Us Bermuda growers are a different type of folk. The grass does it to you.zeke36 wrote:It has been cooler the last couple of weeks mowing has slowed down considerably about once every 5 days, which crazy as it sounds makes me sad.

Re: grass/weed I.D.
update: applied sedgehammer 4 weeks ago and it had little to know effect on nutsedge not sure if I should apply another dose or now that Bermuda is dormant if it is safe to use Image. Any advice would be helpful.

All the systemic herbicides will have more trouble with the cool weather. Sedge is a pain because it puts out tubers in the ground. I've found it to grow the best in any sort of damp or water-logged part of the yard. Or in the flowerbeds if nothing's competing with it.

I was hoping the couple of freezes we have had would kill it off but it seems to be spreading. Should I try another round of Sedgehammer?

If the Bermuda is already dormant, and that weed is still there, then I'm once again not convinced it is nutsedge.
