Crane fly larvae

Postby Michael Wise » December 23rd, 2011, 6:04 pm

Anyone have experience with these guys?

With all the wet weather we've had lately, there are a lot coming out onto the driveway. I haven't gotten a chance to inspect the lawn good to get a grasp of their numbers, though.

My plan is to let nature take its course, because a few of the sources I've read say a healthy stand of turf can easily survive and repair any damage that large numbers may cause. And we always have a lot of crane flys, and I've never heard anyone local complain about their larval damage. But like I said, I don't even know if I have large numbers, just planning/preparing myself ahead.

If this is a dumb idea and you've had your lawn wiped out by them, let me know! :D
