Shall We Play A Game
It's a slow time of year, but I just dropped some money on more soil tests. Who wants to play... "Match That Soil!"?
All you have to do is match the soil analysis from the table to the correct photo of the soil - sorry I didn't include a scale object in the photos. Then tell me which of the 5 soils you'd like best for a vegetable garden.
Here are the results (note that the ion results are in lbs/ac):
Now here are the soil photos:

I also have texture measurements for two of the soils and will post those later.
Each correct match is worth 1 point. You need 10 points to win.

Eh, it's a rank guess (as I've seen high OM soils that looked less rich than low OM soils and much depends on that texture), but:
Sample 1: Photo 1
Sample 2: Photo 4
Sample 3: Photo 5
Sample 4: Photo 3
Sample 5: Photo 2
I'd take any as vegetable garden soil, they're all acceptable. I'd prefer #1 for its pH, #3 and #5 for their ion balances, but all are entirely workable.

What are you going to grow in the Garden Soil?

It's for an allotment-style community garden in a low-income neighborhood, so it's up to the plot owners. I'd guess tomatoes, peppers, squash, some root crops, etc. The plan is for raised beds - 8-10 inches of soil over cardboard covering the native soil.

My guesses:
Sample 1: Photo 5
Sample 2: Photo 1
Sample 3: Photo 2
Sample 4: Photo 4
Sample 5: Photo 3
I would choose to plant in sample 1, with the lowest pH and I would hope to amend the rest of its needs. My expectation is that it's high % of Mg may make it less friable than the others, but that doesn't bother me.
