The Dog Days: Are You Sirius?
Over thousands of years, the calendars have changed and it is difficult to say exactly when the "Dog Days" of Summer are, but all calendars include one 6-day stretch: August 6th to August 11th. This is when the star Sirius (the "Dog Star") rose above the horizon around the time of sunrise. Both the Greeks and the Romans believed that the appearance of the star angered the Sun, and resulted in extra heat from the Sun.
They used to sacrifice a brown dog every year to appease the star and the Sun.
After this Summer, anybody volunteering a nice brown dog?

Can we substitute cats? or better yet all of my brown squirrels that love to dig up my lawn in search of previously buried acorns!

If there is any benefit to an albino squirrel, I can see if the one eating the corn and acorns in my yard will stand still long enough to catch....

I'll second that ...The holes in my yard are everywhere...They need to dig up weeds not "good" turf...
