Rain. And more rain.

Rain. And more rain.

Postby Michael Wise » May 2nd, 2011, 10:53 pm

It has rained over 6 inches in the last 24 hours.

And it is STILL raining.

I've already lost count of how much rain we've gotten in the last couple days now. We've got to be pushing close to 10 or 12 inches.

It is suppose to clear out tonight and stay clear for the rest of the week. Hurry up already.

Someone link me back to this thread in July when I'm making a $200 dollar water bill.

Although I'm beginning to doubt that summer even exist. Low 40's last night and tonight and tomorrow night. Mid to upper 40's on Wednesday night. In Arkansas! In May! :D

I don't know if I'd rather have too much rain or not enough - typical farmer's conundrum.
Every bit of Texas is under at least a "moderate" drought:

Keep it, kids, the rain finally slowed down here. We actually saw this huge, golden ball of light in the sky yesterday and today before it clouded up again. Rain tomorrow and Wednesday, then nice again.

If you ever read the short story, "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury, that's what it was starting to feel like.

Thanks for posting that link.

Not gloating, but glad to see that central AR is caught up or at least close to being caught up.

I do wonder how all this will affect my soil. Luckily I haven't done a whole lot. One app each of 0-0-50 and starter fertilizer. And I put out Twenty Mule, too.

Between this rain, and my sand, there is quite possible a really nice lawn on the other side of the world.

The P is completely safe (it doesn't wash easily). The boron is mostly safe (it does wash, but leaches slowly).

The K, whatever didn't bind, probably headed for China, or your nearest water source. Fortunately, K isn't a water pollutant. But at least some of it bound up.

Don't say "rain" to Northerners right now. We are sick of rain.

Would this be a classic example of "the grass is always greener....."?

Arkansas has gotten some rain this past week, but the Ozark mountains always seem to split the northwesterly storms and make them miss us to the north and south.

Pretty much. The valley I live in tends to deflect storms, so for the past few days most were passing north or south of me. Yesterday we finally got hammered with 2" of rain in an hour.

Just found this thread and the same thing happens to me here. There will be a nice thunderstorm headed our way and it will either die out or split when it gets to my house and then reform after it passes. It seems to happen a lot!!!!! Every now and then we will get hit and get a good soaking.

Keep that to yourself. I could only wish for rain right now.
