A Quick Half Inch of Rain
The weather's gotten so bad lately that I'm finding a half inch of rain to be nothing much, really, even when dumped in half an hour.
At least we get sunny on Friday and stay that way for a while, with almost-normal (but still warm) temperatures...

.5 inch last month.. .5 so far this month... I'm tired of watering everything. It seems I have the opposite problem.

Re: A Quick Half Inch of Rain
This storm has produced nothing for us yet, despite the storm clouds on radar. Was hoping for at least quarter inch to water in the fertilizer I dropped last night
Not being able to irrigated is a constant source of stress for me...

At least there's more due overnight and into tomorrow, so you get a second chance at it.
Regrettably, only our Northeastern friends have a chance with this storm.

Re: A Quick Half Inch of Rain
Yeah we should get 'some' rain today, but not much. 45 days into my repair/reno I still like controlling the irrigation (until the water bill comes) In about 2 weeks I'll wrap up my extra hoses and let MN take over (except weekly watering if we have a dry spell)
90% Tar Heel, 2nd Millenium, Rhambler SRP, and Endeavor Tall Fescues / 10% Midnight Star Kentucky Bluegrass - COMPLETELY ATTACKED by POA TRIVIALIS - but the SUN is coming! DON'T DISTURB THE SOIL...EVER!!

0.75" of rain with it mostly over, or not exactly a deluge. Not that we needed it, I checked the soil yesterday and it was still pretty damp, but it won't do any harm. At least it watered in my Milorganite.
Or, close to 8" of rain so far for September, almost twice normal for the whole month.

We're not getting drowned like you guys farther east, but we are above normal at just over 3" for the month so far. Our normal is around 4" total.
The back yard is squishy like it usually is in the spring. Foot prints & tire marks all over.
Luckily, the front drains better so it looks fine.

Re: A Quick Half Inch of Rain
Lucky you...five days post Lee, I slipped in mud in one part of the yard. It's where the uphill water drains down and it'll be wet for at least another week now.
Just post the storm, the entire lawn felt unstable. All the soil had turned to mud and the only thing holding it together was its own weight and the grass roots.

Even w/ sandy soil the gulley is fairly wet, soft when your walking on it. My seed patches are doing well, even on the upslope of the gulley to the street. Germination is good and the soil is holding moisture thanks to soil additives, went out last night to look at it. Last year it would have been dry soil for sure being near the street and dead seedlings. No watering needed!

Re: A Quick Half Inch of Rain
That is one advantage.
My irrigation system has had minimal use this year, and doesn't look like it'll need use more than once in September if the weather is correct and we now get a two week dry period.
While I'm glad I'm not renovating this year--the rain was ridiculous through that period--it's not a horrible year to do so. Stinking hot and dry presents plenty of challenges, and that's what I dealt with.

Nothing like extremes. You've had more than 100 times as much rain in September than I have. And that's on top of a wet August for you and a dry one for me.

Re: A Quick Half Inch of Rain
Tell me about it. At least the forecast has the weather changing to a more-normal September pattern for the next few weeks, at least. If a bit warm, but that's workable.
You folks have lawns starving for water, ours are drowning in it (literally). Some years you just can't win.

Re: A Quick Half Inch of Rain
I learned the other day how important it is to always have a rain gauge set up on my property- we had a quick 30-45 minute downpour from a thunderstorm last Wednesday.......weather.com shows we got 0.29 inches of rain for my zipcode from it.....my basic plastic Taylor rain gauge showed an actual 1.5 inches hit my yard !!!!

Re: A Quick Half Inch of Rain
Typical in summer--except for a good wide rainfall, I almost always disagree with the airport. Sometimes by quite a lot!
