Double Rainbow!

Double Rainbow!

Postby exige » August 20th, 2010, 12:37 pm

I saw a double rainbow on Wednesday! While I can't say my reaction was quite that of "Double Rainbow Guy" that is famous all over the internet, it was pretty cool. Here's some pics I snapped.

You DID find the end of the double-rainbow, right? There are six pallets of Milorganite waiting for the finder at the end of the rainbow!

I want to know if a double-rainbow has six or twelve pallets.

12 pallets, but you do have to go to the second rainbow's end to get the other six.

Mind the leprechauns. They have severe Napoleon complexes.

Now that is a cool photo!

I was on a plane flight once and saw a complete and brilliant rainbow below us (a complete circle/halo). That was pretty cool. Then I noticed that the shadow of the airplane was on the ground, right in the center of the rainbow halo. More coolness! - what were the chances of that, I wondered. Then Optics 101 kicked in - the chances of that were actually pretty good.

Wish I had a camera though - it's still one of the best atmospheric displays I've ever seen.

I read someplace that all rainbows have a double rainbow, but the outer one is generally too faint to see (I read up on them after seeing one that was particularly vivid, many miles from my camera so nobody believed me). It's a beautiful thing to see and it's great that you were able to capture it so well.

That is cool Cactus. I got to see a full circle rainbow at the Grand Canyon.
