Still growing strong for me and mowing every 5-7 days. I have backed off the Nitrogen a bit. I was hitting 2 lb fast release per month initially, but am now at 1 lb/month. Currently, I'm fighting some P. Annua in the sidewalk strip and a few patches in the main lawn where I had some infestations from the renovation last year.
I expect that it will be another 2-4 weeks before things really slow down here in St. Louis. Depending on the winter and your soil health, you may not see much in the way of true winter dormancy with KBG.
Bernstem, haven't seen an update from you lately. Looking forward to seeing how your reno has progressed. When do you have your winterizer app scheduled for at this point? Have you ever sprayed iron? I'm thinking about it, but a little nervous since we are hosting Thanksgiving this year. Don't want to screw it up at this point.

Re: kmaSTL's 2011 Reno & Overseed
I have been quite busy with work and haven't had much to update. The reno is doing well. I have some P. Annua that I am currently working on killing in the front. The back looks great (Monostands can't be beaten for uniformity) except for one spot that is a bit thin. I'll try and post up some pictures this weekend. Mostly I have been mulching leaves and haven't really had a chance to get a good shot of the lawn as the wind covers it in fresh leaves as soon as it is clear.
I have been spraying Iron on the new reno. I wanted to get an app down last weekend, but it didn't happen. That is now on the schedule for this weekend. Iron will definitely darken the grass. The better cultivars really respond to the Iron very well. If you are nervous, spray at a lower dose the first time.

Re: kmaSTL's 2011 Reno & Overseed
Hi kmaSTL - bernstem let me know about your thread/reno. It looks like it went pretty well. My parents live in Town and Country and my mother has been unhappy with her Zoysia in full sun in the front for years now. I'm wondering if you were happy with your selection of cultivars. Is there anything you would do differently?
Did you use TTTF/KBG in the back because you had shade there or because you were worried about KBG performance in STL?
I guess I'm looking for any tips/advice you have for a potential KBG (her favorite grass) in STL - I would be shooting for a fall reno.

Hi trendster,
I am very happy with my selection of cultivars, although I don't have much experience with any others besides what I've seen on the forums. I am totally amazed at this point at how thick and dark the lawn is so far this year (I'm planning on posting some pics this weekend).
The reason why I have TTTF/KBG in the back is because that's what my whole lawn was before I renovated the front. The back was in better condition and I didn't have the nerve to renovate the whole yard. Also, parts of the back are mostly shade so that also factored in on the decision to leave it TTTF/KBG.
The advice I would give you would be to study a lot of last years reno's (especially Bernstem's) and ask lots of questions. The one thing I noticed with my reno and a few others was that topdressing is a big factor and that less is better in regards to topdressing.
Good luck!

Here is the lawn on 4/1. I've mowed 5 times, currently at 2.5". It's been a very warm spring. 90 degrees yesterday and today. Planning on spraying some iron later this week when temperatures get back into the 70s. Overall, I am very happy with the reno. I'm mainly focused on adding as much OM as possible and I'm worried about disease outbreak so I've dropped Corn Meal & Serenade.

Awesome!
You've hit 90 already? Wow! We have gone up to the mid 80's here with temps dropping back to the mid 70's by mid week.
I seeded with Moon Shadow, Midnight, and Bedazzled. Pretty close to your selection. Do you find that the Bedazzled is growing faster than the others?

I'll admit it, I really haven't taken the time to identify the individual cultivars. Sorry.

Ok, not that I have done this.lol But 2 or 3 days after you mow. Get down on your hands and knees with a ruler. You may find 1 cultivar is growing twice as fast as the others. What I beleive is Bedazzled is growing like crazy.
