Drop kgb pots now or wait?

Postby GeorgiaDad » November 17th, 2011, 2:38 pm

Depending on the weather service I check. There is a chance of a freeze tonight and possibly Friday night. I have 40+ kgb pots I did not get a chance to plant this week. So now I have a choice. Hurry and have my sons help me plant them this afternoon or move them into the garage for the night and plant Friday or Saturday. Will dropping the 7 week old pots in the ground right before a freeze hurt them? The weather after Friday night looks good. 10 day forecast calls for highs from 60 to 70 and lows 41 to 55.

I don't think its going to hurt them but I would wait anyway. The weather will be nicer this weekend.

A real Freeze or a Frost? If it's Frost, I'd ignore it - that's not going to freeze the containers. If it's a real Freeze (less than 28 degrees for more than a couple of hours), then I'd protect them...

Wow...the weather service can't make up their minds. 3 hours later and now the forecast is for a low of 33 tonight and 30 tomorrow night. It was forecasted to be 30 tonight and 28 Friday night. The pots are in a protected corner. I may end up making a late night decision on bring them in. Usually up til after 11 and up by 5:30. If it does get cold I will just shuffle them into the garage.

Thanks simpson and andy.

Same here simpson. I decided to hold off til Saturday. So if it looks like we may actually hit 32 or lower, pots are going to get to sleep in the garage tonight.
