Driveway Crack/Hole...

Does driving your car over it help or hurt? That's some serious weight. Perhaps some wood over it and then drive the car over the wood?

Use the biggest hammer you got!

If you don't have one of these:

Now's the time to get one.

How does Homer Simpson say "doohh" Thanks for the laugh!

I can always be used as an example, in this case a bad one :yahoo:

I forget that you Northerners, love your asphalt. Down south, the mold grows for years on concrete and eventually it turn black!!

I'm glad JG found the right answer.

Your answers on concrete were on point and for that I give you a +1

Jg driving the car over it is not really going to do anything. The pressure right at the tire is way less then you think.

The only problem with doing that is if the material is tacky the tires will pull it out..If you go this route toss some sand on top of the patch then drive over it.

A $5 masonry blade in an old circular saw would give you a nice clean edge to patch up to. Start at about 1/4 inch deep and make your cut. The lower the blade another 1/4 inch and do a second pass. After a few passes to get a clean cut near the surface, then you can chip away at the deeper parts with a cold chisel or screwdriver. Could also call a pro and ask them to put a bandaid on it til your ready to redo it. Maybe they'll give you a deal since they will want to get your business when the time comes.

Maybe re-allocate some $ from the milorganite budget to the driveway repair account? On second thought, no.

So I went to Lowe's and was about the get the normal asphalt patch stuff and saw this product and got confused and left. Seems like it could be better. Any thoughts?

While I have no experience here, I did almost decide to get away from the visiting children and stay at a Best Western last night. :-)

Epoxies have excellent bonding and strength, often up into tons. Rustoleum is a good name, so I wouldn't have any issues with using this. I'd use a driveway wash, then rinse it, before application to increase bonding. The one thing epoxy doesn't stick to is oil or anything even faintly greasy or soapy.

One minor issue is that if you overfill the crack, it'll be ages until it wears away. Some bits of epoxy I've used to fix things around here never will wear down as they don't see enough friction. Make sure to use one of those flat things to even everything out, although a minor bump isn't much of an issue.

I decided to go with Sakrete cold patch. I cleaned out the area (part of the problem is that there is only about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of asphalt there in the first place. I pulled away and loose chunks and put about 1 inch in, pounded it like crazy with my really big mallet, then put another inch and pounded it. I'll probably put some more tomorrow; the bag says to leave it a bit higher than the surrounding area (even after banging it). My gut says that the pressure from the mallet at full force is probably greater than a car tire that distributes weight, but I'll drive over it a lot as well.
