Looking for some since I'm not one to make my own. Heard this is the best time of year to apply it. Do big box stores carry it?

Not sure you can purchase it in bottles of the shelf, as I would assume it requires lots of oxygen to keep the microbes alive and kicking- which is tough to do when it is sealed in a bottle!

Very simple to make at home, and inexpensive too! another option is to just purchase a bag of compost and put in a bucket and fling on the grass- it doesnt take much to reap the benefits, maybe 1 bag per 1000 sq ft?

I have had trouble finding good compost. Any suggestion on where to purchase?

Most independent garden stores sell bags of quality compost,even Lowes or home depot around here do as well.

If you have a Whole Foods, they sell some bags there too. Usually can find earthworm castings there for 5 bucks or so.

Within reason - it's not brilliant to put it down in February if you live in Minnesota.

More or less when the ground is not frozen its a good time for compost tea and milorganite.
