Ultra Dawn as soil conditioner

Postby SidewaysLS4 » October 12th, 2011, 11:24 am

I'm thinking some soil conditioner might be a good idea to try. And I like nice cheap DIY type stuff, hence using Ultra Dawn which I have on hand right now.

Looking at the MSDS sheet, there is apparently anywhere between 10%-30% of the total composition, of both Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

Which leads to my question...about how many ounces/1K sqft of Ultra Dawn would approximate the BL Soil Conditioner/Aerify types of application rates of these surfacants?

Anything from 2 to 4 ounces per thousand would be just fine, at any dilution level that's convenient for you. You may have to pre-dilute a bit for accurate spraying as I've noticed that Ultra Dawn is kind of thick compared to the homemade stuff (which is very watery).

So, how would a person dilute Ultra Dawn? I guess what I mean is, what would the Ultra Dawn:Water ratio have to be so that spraying 2-4oz/k is still effective?

Also, how effective is Ultra Dawn compared to BL Soil Conditioner?

This is the only place on Earth where I can talk about spraying my grocery list (milk, laundry detergent, and now dish washing liquid) on my lawn and be taken seriously. :rotfl:

I'm thinking of using my cheapo 1 gallon sprayer. Then let the rain wash the stuff into the soil. Hope it doesnt wash the green out of the grass, lol

I'd try diluting by half (half Dawn, half water) and spraying at 4 ounces per thousand. Or 1:4 and spray at 8 ounces per thousand. Whatever works.

Effectiveness...probably half to seventy percent the soil conditioner, but not so long-lasting either (the yucca extract really does help).

Make sure that the Ultra Dawn isn't antibacterial - maybe of their "flavors" are...
