Too late for Alfalfa? Any benefit?

Postby jglongisland » September 22nd, 2011, 9:16 pm

I've applied Alfalfa on the following dates at between 25 and 50 lbs per thousand sq. ft.:

8/26
6/30
5/21
4/8

Would it make sense to apply it again or is there plenty of Triacontanol in my soil? I've got about one more week when i can get away with pellets and still have them break down in a reasonable time period. Milorganite is my main organic feeding from here on out supplemented with urea.

There have been studies that show that too much Triacontanol can be counterproductive. If you've already done it four times, I think that's enough. Use something else. But, you won't kill anything if you apply again. There is little information about how long its effects last.

Thanks. I need someone to control my tendency to have to do something all the time. I'll stick with MO and urea for the rest of the year.

That's good to know!

Back in the day, two weeks ago, we were able to drop organics as often as our hearts desired.
As long as we didn't cover the crowns, it was all good.

Last week I hear that it might not be a good idea to drop Milorganite whenever I feel like.
Now, I learn that too much alfalfa might not be a good thing.

Milorganite was my heavy hitter this year, but I was planning to switch to alfalfa next year.
Now, I'm going to do more alternating between Milo, alfalfa, sbm & cracked corn.
