Sources in Southeastern Massachusetts

Postby Depalma on July 16th, 2010, 12:08 pm

I've been lurking on these forums and want to ease into an organic lawn care program, but haven't been able to find any good sources of cornmeal, soybean meal, alfalfa, etc.

Anybody in the Southeastern Mass area have any info on sources. I don't even mind driving a ways if I have to.

I've looked around there before and couldn't find anything. Perhaps I overlooked a section of the store. I only saw piles of mulch, loam. Pallets of top soil and regular fertilizer and pet feed. There was only one person working the register and she was fairly tied up so I didn't get a chance to ask. Perhaps I'll try again when there is more help or less customers. They are local, so that would be perfect. Hopefully, I overlooked the right section.

Just e-mailed them and they said they did say they have the alfalfa pellets and the cornmeal. So between those two and milorganite, I should be able to add some good OM to my soil.

Anybody have any other sources? I'd like multiple choice to price shop if available or do add soybean meal into a rotation.

Thanks for the reply snachs.

Most "Agways" will special-order SBM for you if you give them a week's notice. You have several not too far away.

I see there is an Agway about 5 miles away in Berkley. I think I'll swing by and check them out.
Thanks Andy

Gary is correct, I took the ride up to MA from central CT in early spring. If memory serves me correctly it took about 3 hours to get there but I don`t mind the sight seeing. I bought 50 40lb bags for $175.00. Getting in contact with anybody over there by email is useless, nobody responds.I had to make multiple phone calls until I spoke with a gentleman named Carl who was instrumental in answering my questions and giving me directions to the shipyard.

I have been dumping about 300lbs of Baystate across 10Ksqft every 3 weeks on average threw out the season and find it a nice addition to my lawn care routine.

Here is one of a few posts(try using the search button on the forum) about Baystate, I believe at least one or two other members have bought some as well.

No pickup unfortunately. It might be worth renting a van for the day though. Only about 30 miles away, so the drives not bad.

Thanks for the info.
