Secret Garden Organic Lawn Fertilizer

Postby davidval » June 12th, 2011, 7:13 pm

Has anyone used this product. It is sold at HD and you get a bag that covers 5000sqfeet for $20. I was thinking of using this as an alternative to Milorganite which I have to buy 4 bags for my 8000sqfeet yard. I no the directions says it covers 2500 (on some bags 2900) but when I use it as directed- I always run out.

I have neither used it or seen it, but the research I did bothers me. It says "uses OMRI approved products" but I can't find an OMRI approval for the product. There is no viewable label of ingredients on the website for the product. As a matter of fact, about 60% of the pages on the product/company's website are "under construction". It also is not listed in the biggest database in the country - the Washington State Dept of Agriculture's database. The 11% Nitrogen number is pretty high for a product that is all organic. In my memory, only fish meal, blood meal and feather meal even come close. And there is no way that you're getting blood meal at that price.

I'll try to check it out for ingredients (on the bag) when I'm next at Home Depot (the only place it's sold), unless someone finds out what's in it first.

Set the spreader to use less product, or change your pace to match the spreaders current rate.

Thanks, I knew it was probably too good to be true because other products like Scotts Organic Choice cost this amount or more and give you the same 2500sq feet and Milorganite. I will try walking slower to see if I get the square footage that they say I should get from it.

Dave, you'd need to walk a bit FASTER if you're running out of product before you run out of yard.

I walk slow with Milor. want to see where I'm going, and look for problem areas.

did you get a laugh out of this or what?
(here's the website-- Click here for more information)

bird's chirping, picture of kid and dog sitting on somebodies lawn, picture of bag that says, 11-2-3 and little of any explanation or substance.

this company isn't in the fertilizer business, they're in the fantasy business.

The plane, boss! The plane! --Smiles, everyone! Smiles!

Looking at it, I can't figure out what it is, either. At 11% N, there's got to be some urea in it for it to be fully organic (fine, but not what I'd call a soil-builder).

No. Anytime I see a product that won't publish their ingredients, I know that there is a 99% chance that one (or both) of the following things is true:

(1) They are misrepresenting the product, or
(2) The ingredients are easy to locate and much cheaper than they are inside their bag.

Pictures of kids and dogs just up the probability of a major BS factor in my book.

PS: I was able to determine that the "wonderful for the soil" ingredient is Neem Meal. OK, so some portion of the bag has a 5-1-3 NPK.

Yeah, but what doesn't have a photo of babies, dogs, happy young ladies, etc. on it these days?

Interesting story, possibly apocryphal. In Africa, many people can't read so they put the photo of what's in the bottle or can on the label. They were having a VERY hard time selling American baby food...because of the photo of the baby on the label. :-)

But yeah, I wrote this stuff off as BS. I know what's in my soybean meal (soybean meal).

Yes, but I'll bet the ones with the "happy young ladies" sell well.

I'll note it as apocryphal. Interestingly, I would have had an easier time believing it if they'd set it in the American Appalachian region. Most people seem to be back on baby food around the age of 30 when the lose the last of their teeth.
