Raising Iron levels in Soil???
I think this has been addressed before but I was wondering the best way to raise iron levels in the soil. Now I know adding MO helps and I have also heard about greensand but MO is just too expensive for what you need to raise Fe levels and I can't find greensand around here. I was thinking if you add Ferrous Sulfate directly to the lawn would that help and work its way down in the soil? Also I am going to experiment this Spring/Summer to see if spraying Ammonium Ferrous Sulfate actually improves the color of Bermuda or not? In the past when I have sprayed it, I didn't notice that much difference. Any thoughts or idea would be appreciated!!!!

What's your pH, and if it's easy post a link to your latest soil test.

Re: Raising Iron levels in Soil???
If iron levels are already good, spraying won't have too much effect on most grasses (elite KBG is always the exception). Soil application of ferrous sulfate works, but does depend on your pH (as Andy noted). Higher pH binds iron, so although total soil iron rises the available amount doesn't change a great deal.

My pH is around 6 and my Iron levels are low. Here is my soil test. Thank you!

Re: Raising Iron levels in Soil???
I'm not sure what the optimal levels are for Tifway but those do seem low. Any iron source would be fine, although I might avoid direct soil application of ferrous sulfate and ferrous ammonium sulfate at those pH levels--they're OK to low, and both will drop them further. Just keep a closer eye on the pH levels.
Lilly Miller Moss Out would be another possibility, but it's mostly ferrous sulfate anyway.
