That's part of the plan to renovate next season.

Hey there - new to the forum...

I want to try molasses to control my nutsedge - which has become the bane of my existence. I see that I should use 1 c. unsulphured per gallon of water and drench well - right? My question is whether rain or watering afterward will negatively affect the application. Right now, it's in the 90's here in Central VA, with no rain in the forecast. Should I turn off lawn irrigation for a few days after applying the molasses?

Hi, Julie - and Welcome!

Nutsedge is almost impossible to beat this time of the year, even with the best treatments. Don't throw in the towel if anything doesn't work. Mark the spots and hit them hard next Spring when the plants are young. Nutsedge is MUCH more susceptible when it is young.

Hi Julie. I just spent the morning digging out my nutsedge. I had three plants and spent about an hour and a half digging down 8 inches and sifting every root or part of a root out of the soil before putting it back in. Normally my occasional nutsedge plant goes away but this is a spot where it continues to come back. Now with three plants, it's like an epidemic (to me, at least). I know three plants is nothing, but the idea is to catch it when it is just getting started.

I want to ask you a question. Would you characterize the areas where you have nutgrass as higher than the surrounding soil level or lower? Does water ever pool up in the area(s) where the nutsedge is?
