I own a truck and 4 ton, 16 foot trailer, should be able to get 3-4 pallets full, I'll be sure to ask you all for local orders before I go. I hear this stuff is less than half the price of Milorganite. Milwaukee human poo vs. Boston human poo....meh....Sam Adams and Fenway Franks oh yea! LOL
Central Connecticut, I'll take as much as I can fit then store it out back.

I think I'm done with organic feedings for the year. Next year for sure though. I'll get pallet for myself and donate a pallet to you guys!

Has anyone asked their local Lesco guy if tey could order a pallet of Milorganite? I hate the 36# HD/Lowes bags, Lesco could probably get the 50# one's.

My nearest Lesco dealer has 50lb bags for $11.80. Not bad considering The Depot has 36lb bags for $12.37 At bag rate, that means for me I would only have to buy 6 bags instead of 8. Ultimately, I would get 12lbs more product for $30 less. Gotta like that.

Re: Milorganite Fiend
I just added it up and I've put down 61 bags of MO on 5,500 sq. ft. this year (probably another 8-12 to go), 2196 lbs. Total organic additions to the lawn are at 9,010 lbs, 1732.60/thousand or 1.73 lbs/sq. ft. Not counting leaves - that starts in earnest this weekend (had a good drop after Irene and some last weekend). In about 3 weeks I hit the peak that runs for another 3 weeks.

Only on this forum would that be a badge of honor. Right now everyone's lawn looks great around here (Perennial Rye really is hard to be in October).

Re: Milorganite Fiend
Please help...
Just before Easter we had 4 nights of hard freeze and most of my hostas were substantially leafed out and got whacked in a big way. I lost about a dozen, have had about 6 get subsequent crown rot, and generally most everything looks pretty sad.
When I cleaned up the mushy leaves I fertilized with Milorganite (April 15). I had used Milorganite in early March as well, hence one of the things contributing to the leafing out because of unseasonably warm March temps.
My question is, since everything is just looking so wimpy, would it be a good idea to give them some more Milorganite...or something else...to get them back on their feet? It has been two months since they've been fed, but I don't want to weaken them ultimately by over fertilizing...

I see it, but please repost this into the "Shade Gardening" area of the "Around the Yard" forum - I don't want to cause this to go way off-topic...

Re: Milorganite Fiend
How often should I be dropping Milorganite? How many pounds per square foot and how often? Last application was 10/9 at bag rate. I want to drop as much as I can before the soil can't absorb it anymore...I will be looking to drop a winterizer around Thanksgiving as well.
Thanks guys!

Yesterday sounds good, As budget allows. My budget is hurting right now. It's been 2 weeks since I drop the last time.

Re: Milorganite Fiend
My last drop for the year is going to be this week. Last week's drop hasn't disappeared yet (the snow/cold weather slowed things down). I drop about 1.8x to 2.5x the bag rate on average.

Re: Milorganite Fiend
So I'll drop 2.5x the bag rate this weekend, keep an eye on the decomposition, and possibly drop another 2.5x the bag rate next weekend.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Milorganite Fiend
I've been dropping 2.5x bag rate every two weeks this fall, this is the first fall I haven't used synthetic fert and my lawn looks great. I will use synthetic winterizer next month however.

Re: Milorganite Fiend
Is 154 ppm Iron pretty good or does it need to come up? I'm guessing since I just this year started looking after the yard, it needs to come up. So what is a good number?
Edit: OK well I found this thread here and like Andy says, apperently it's highly variable.

New question...what is "elite" grass/lawns?

New question...what is "elite" grass/lawns?
"Elite" cultivars are newer cultivars that have been selected/bred for better disease resistance, better color, certain blade-width characteristics, etc. They are generally not available at mass-market stores, and you have to read the NTEP and then locate a source for them. It's work.
When it became possible to patent a cultivar, many of the mass-market seed providers chose to stay with the older cultivars that didn't involve the payment of royalties.
"Elite Grasses/Lawns" generally implies the use of the newer cultivars, which often are more nutrient-demanding than older cultivars to reach their maximum potential.
