Chicken Manure?

Postby Blackbird » August 3rd, 2011, 4:11 pm

I was at a Garden Center earlier today and saw that they sell a product called "Cockadoodle Doo" that's made from chicken manure. This product was stacked right next to the Milorganite and got me wondering if it might have any organic benefits that Milorganite doesn't.

Discuss...

I don't think it has the iron content that Milorganite does.

You're right. I didn't see Ironite listed as one of the ingredients on the bag. I figured as much though.

As a young lad, I delivered eggs straight from the farm. Fresh chicky poopoo stinks. Not as bad as pig, but still up there on the stink scale.

So, if this is anywhere NEAR fresh, expect an olfactory bonanza, and not in a good way.

I tried a bag last year. It was processed like Milorganite with a slightly larger size. I don't remember much of a smell, but I also don't smell Milorganite.

I wondered what the smell would be like. I know it's hard to believe, but I actually like the smell of Milorganite. After spreading tons of it on customer's lawns though, that stuff starts smelling like biscuits and gravy!!!

A fellow I know used it and liked it, and got good results. It's like Chick-organite, really. :-) Minus the iron...

Blackbird,

How much was it for a bag? I'm just wondering if it's a significantly cheaper fert than Milorganite. I tried the lookup on their website for stores they sell at and it's giving me a database error; could you share where you saw it at in Columbus?

The one time I saw it in my area, it was twice the price of milorganite. I passed.

Hi Dave. I saw it at the Strader's Garden Center on East Broad St. They had a stack of bags and they were around $12 per bag. I think they were 40 lb bags. It's hard to remember the exact weight, because I looked at so much crap while I was there. Literally! :P

Nice! :)

Thanks for the info. It seems that Cockadoodle Doo is priced the same as Milorganite. At a glance, I'd stick with Milorganite since it has iron as a staple.
