Re: BayState Fertilizer - Cheap Milorganite Alternative
Don't worry about the test--that's standard operating procedure for me. First drop was March 1, but the test wasn't dug out until after that. As long as there were no bits of corn or Bay State in the stuff, you're fine. Even if there were, following the sampling procedures means the error should be small.

Great! I will send off the soil samples this weekend and will be posting the result for everyone's evaluation and help!
Is there any reason to not use the BSF that I have exclusively, since at the current pricing, its my cheapest "organic" fertilizer (besides Starbucks grounds)? I dropped some corn meal earlier since I had easy access but is there any additional benefit to mixing things up a little?

Not really, no. You already mixed it up, and are planning on the coffee grounds, which is enough of a mix to make me happy. This year, I'm using three things--soybean meal, Milorganite, and cracked corn. You also used three.
Warranted, if you should stumble across a cheap organic feeding that's comparable with the BSF, go right ahead and use it. It's not going to hurt! But don't make a special trip or spend a fortune. You don't need to.
I'm sure you'll have some leaves in fall, so that will help too and they count as another source as well.

Just a bump on this thread. I called Carl today. Only comes in 40lb bags, paper bags so no big box stores will carry it as it needs to be kept dry. No cash, M-F 8-4pm. $3.50/bag.

I wish you could go direct to buy Milorganite, I'd be there in a Milwaukee minute (which is 90 minutes for normal people)
