That thing is the cats [banned word]. Every time I see it I want to go build one. I would probably have to learn how to weld first! ha!

Those don't work for compost unless it was sifted very well (twice?), but for coffee grounds it should work well.

jfd.lew...sorry, I missed your question on the flickr page. We didn't have a materials list but it is a pretty simple design.

The end circles are just steel with 1 inch flat welded on for the lip. The axle is 5/8ths rod. The expanded steel is 1/2 by 3/4 "rough" not smooth IRC. The handle is just 1 inch square tubing. The hinge is piano hinge. To keep the door closed, we used some small tubing welded to the inside of the door with a steel rod pushed through the end circle, through the steel tubing, and under the 1 inch flat lip on the other side. On the prototype we used clasps to close the door but they take a beating so we switched to the internal rod closure. I don't know if you saw all the pictures on Flickr and I could take some more pictures if that would help you.

Not for sale. We built them so anyone wanting to topdress their lawns with our compost could use them. I've seen similar ones for sale online but they appear to be not quite as robust as what we built. I use the one with the clasps when I do any topdressing.

i put mine on a tarp in the garage. then park the car over it overnight.
next day dry :good:

i had a rough learning curve using the 'sling' method & UCG. I added to much as a top dressing on the lawn & veggie garden. repelled the water :banghead:
now i work them into garden soil & rake them around on the lawn :good:

A quikie tip on drying coffee grounds. I have been soaking in all the info and started about two weeks ago collecting grounds. Lost at first on how to dry them but today I knew we would have a sunny dry day so I put the grounds on a sheet of heavy duty aluminum foil and in a few hours they were dry and very loose. The squirrls threw some around but all worked great. Now I am going to dry the grounds and store in a bucket. I will use them in August when I redo the front and side lawns.
