tenacity and wbg question.....

Postby shoalducker » January 30th, 2012, 9:29 pm

with this warm winter.... i have had a few patches of annual blue grass show up. i treated it with tenacity yesterday and plan to again in a few weeks. i have also had a strong showing of clover all over! i have a bottle and a half of wbg hose end mix i wanted to treat the lawn with. how long do i have to wait after the tenacity application to apply? does it matter? I just want as much of this stuff dead before i drop pre-e in march. thanks!

If you treated with tenacity then why would you need to spray the weed-b-gone?

i only spot treated the patches with annual blue grass. not the whole lawn. the clover is very spread out. i have never had this trouble before.

I really wouldn't worry about the clover at this point of the season. Is the clover actively growing at this time of year in NC? Keep in mind that the Weed B Gon (CCO) would take a while to work and I really don't know how effective it would be if it's not actively growing. Tenacity should hold some of these weeds at bay...at the very least.

Clover is also dominant in low fertility soils. I don't know what your grass feeding was like this past season, but it shouldn't be a problem to take out come the spring time.

the clover is actively growing. i fed pretty well with milorganite all year, then some snythetics in the fall and winterization. so i would say its well fed. i figured this time of year it would be a slow kill. but the stuff is growing strong! 62 today, 65 tomorrow!

You can try giving it a shot of WBG if you like. I believe the Weed B Gon with 8% Triclopyr is more effective on clover but it will still take multiple shots. I really don't know how effective just normal Weed B Gon will do on that as I never tried it for clover.

Clover is mixed in with lawns all the time, so even if you waited to where you got steady 70 degree temperatures, I don't think that would be such a bad idea. I got a lot of Wild Onion growing in my fall renovation right now. Although I hate it with a passion, I'm just waiting for March to attack it.

Agree. This is "Chickweed/Clover/Oxalis Killer", which we refer to as "CCO". Good stuff, but I have no idea about the application of it in January/February.

I have great success with WBG this month...weeds dying, I am happy with it. It is plenty warm enough for it right now. temps at 70 here next few days.

doesn't tenacity kills weeds as well? sorry, i am not familiar with it. you can hit wbg anytime weeds are actively growing...and they are growing.

I didn't do a renovation last year, just did a tall fescue overseed and topdressed with Leafgro, but I have wild onions coming up as well. Wondering if there is something with the temps and the rain that has made it hospitable to wild onion as I've never had them before in the fescue portion of my yard. Does regular WBG kill wild onion?
