I'm like 95% happy with it. Its giving my new grass time to mature and get ready for our heat, but I still havent hit the lawn with anything to control the chickweed that came outta nowhere...

Is it too late to go buy some tenacity? (would that even work now?!) I'm leary of WBG because putting it in the ortho sprayer delivers waaaaay more than recommended at the recommended settings (unless I'm sprinting).

I should just invest in a backpack sprayer...

I use wbg in sprayer and have had great results...I spot spray the weeds. I will say you are right, chickweed is crazy this year.

I'm very Happy;

The in-laws came to town from Montana and took pictures of themselves in the newly renovated yard with shorts, flipflops and margaritas in the adarondack chair. :yahoo:

I've been spot spraying CCO with pretty good success, but the Tenacity, not so much.

Not that I'm happy to read that you and others on BL have chickweed, but I am somewhat relieved to know that I'm not the only one out there suffering from a chickweed invasion this year! I don't have much in the fescue back yard I overseeded in early October, but it's all over the thin spots in my zoysia in the front yard. I think I may spray with WBG CCO killer or perhaps even try RU since the zoysia is dormant.

I had every other weed known to man over the summer. Took care of that, and then BLAM! Chickweed is growing everywhere.... EVERYWHERE. Its in the front, its in the back... its even in the planters on my porch?!

Its weird...I'm a bit paralyzed what to do right now. I also have new chickweed and top-growth seems to be still going slowly. One minute I decide to tackle the weeds, but don't...then I decide to mow, but don't...Now with temps dropping nicely on Monday, is anyone going to fertilize assuming this is the start of cold temps for a while? Guess I'm trying to decide whether to do nothing until early spring warm-up...

I got my winterizer down Thanksgiving weekend. I've not seen much topgrowth to speak of, but we got whomped with about 3 inches of rain less than a week later, so I'm not sure how much of what I put down might have hung out for the roots to take up either. Guess when spring gets here, I'll be able to give it a guess. I also have chickweed in my planters - along with everywhere else. I walk the fescue in the back and pluck out the ones I see, but there are too many in front to attempt that. The other weed I seem to have a lot of this year is hairy bittercress and either dicondra or ground ivy - not quite sure which is it. I've never seen those in my yard before. They are only in the front where I have zoysia and i've not seen any flowers or seed heads on anything, but I'm thinking about hitting them with RU tomorrow because daytime temps are supposed to be in the 50s tomorrow and Sunday. Figured it's my last best shot until spring as temps are supposed to only make it into the low 30s starting on Tuesday. I guess that means winter has finally decided to arrive!

Round-up works wonders on Chickweed that's growing in dormant Zoysia and Bermuda patches... I personally like to wait later - like Feb/March time frame to slather it on... It will be a calamity if the Zoysia/Bermuda isn't all the way dormant....

I would expect WBG CCO to work fine where you can't round-up - just slowly with the weather we are seeing... Since you mention it, I need to get out and apply some WBG as well... Got some Salad Fixin's that need killing in the Fescue/KBG mix areas...

Thanks

Too late :sorry: I sprayed RU on Saturday when it was 62 glorious degrees outside! I spot sprayed where I could and sprayed and used the fan pattern on my 1 gallon tank sprayer whenever I got to an area that was mostly green with chickweed and other weeds. I didn't drench the area by any means, so I may have missed baby weeds that were just sprouting under below the top of the straw colored zoysia blades. On the other hand, if there was any green on the zoysia blades further down toward the soil, I likely didn't get them sprayed either. Guess I'll find out next spring/summer if I didn't wait long enough and I end up with a polka dotted and striped lawn!

I decided to go ahead and put down the winterizer (35-0-5). I figure that with soil temps pretty close to staying in the low 40's, I don't think the month of January will get much warmer.

Weather is going to warm up over the next few days....mid 60's 5 of the next 6 days with lows in the 40's. My lawn will not go dormant this year.

Yea, I was planning on fertilizing in February anyway, so I guess I'll just wait another month or so...
