Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Just came back from Canada few minutes ago. Brought my family there for 4 days for vacation.
I'm so tired since I drove for 9.5 hours but it was fun!
About the grass, since there isn't enough light outside, I can't see much damage. I looked closely and I really don't see any damage. I'll check again in the morning. The one that got hit with RU are all dead. How many days does Certainty takes before it will show signs of damage?

Give it at least a week to show some yellowing but growth is supposed to stop after 24hr. Certainty works best under warm/moist conditions (per label) so the cooler conditions will slow things down a bit. Avoid the temptation to respray because you don't see a whole lot of effect. Been there, done that, killed some kbg with that. It helps to mark when you sprayed in your lawn journal or on a calender.

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Just got home. It was my first day at work! YAY!
Okee, I haven't done anything to the lawn yet. I looked at it this morning before I left, I didn't see any signs. I'll give it a week.
I'll keep you posted.
Thanks!

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
hi simpson,
Sorry for the delayed response. I took a picture 2 days ago and didn't see much damage. Today, I looked at some of the grass closely and I did see some damage at the tips. Hopefully, it will continue to work.
By the way, my lawn is really an eye-sore right now. The weeds are soooo bad!!!
The application of RU few weeks ago made it even worst. Tomorrow morning, I'll be spraying WBG. It is really FUGLY!

next time I see some, I wouldn't mind picking up that green lawn spray! Serious, why should your lawn have to look bad because of a few splotches of yellow weed kill.

This is going to be great to follow to see how much kbg fills in. I would think you should be looking good by July if your feeding, mowing and watering right.

Cool, polka dots! It's like looking at a not particularly tasteful 1950's party dress!
Don't worry about that, most of those spots look small (if numerous). Feed well, keep it watered appropriately, and they'll close in very, very fast. I closed hugely larger ones in one summer. Since, if I remember arights, you're organic, feed heavy. Very, very heavy.

I don't mean to scare you or treat you like a grand experiment, but I'll be watching to see if the aggressive variety uses the opportunity to demonstrate its aggressiveness - being overly represented in the filled-in areas.

Thanks for those words guys! I needed those.
hehehe
Do I rake the dead grass or let nature does its thing? Just keep mowing right?
I'll feed it sometime this week! I'll keep everyone posted!

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
If you rake it sprinkle some more dimension in the holes.
One thing that helps tremendously for the breakdown and the general aesthetic appearance is to put compost on each patch, aftewards its critical that you sprinkle dimension on each patch or you'll get new poa in those holes.

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
I've watched a 8" area close over the past month. It may have a little over 2" left. Granted healthy grass was completely around the bare area but it seems to cover quickly.
Our yards look very similar now, kinda like a green leopard.
I wish you the best of luck.

Ha! (squirt) Ha! (squirt) Bwahahaha! (squirt, squirt, squirt)
Sometimes being trim with the stuff doesn't make sense. This was one of those times. The area the Township destroyed in November got what patches I could scavenge, and those are already visibly spreading. Now the grass seed is starting to sprout (30% color yesterday, 50% today), so I don't expect that I'll be annoyed by it for much longer. What the seed doesn't handle, the spreading will.
And that was 300 square feet of destroyed, dug-up, wide-open-soil area in one huge patch, not the little things you have.
You can rake if you want. I never do, I just dump lots of organics on the spots (although you do have a lot of spots) and let the old grass tips rot. I figure it adds organics...

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Hopefully you have better luck than I. I had large areas I reseeded last fall and the only thing that grew back was the Poa Annua. I'm thinking of using heavy Pre M in the fall to combat it. Going through last summer with all the dead areas looked awful. Everyone here says KBG spreads quickly, apparently my Galaxy blend didnt.

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Man, if Emblem can spread aggressively as initial reports from Andy and Nothing0, that could eliminate one of the weaknesses of KBG which is dealing with rather large patches (6"+). Patching from seed just takes so long, unlike PRG. At least on my KBG, a 6+" patch would likely take a good year to fill in. I always get mole damage so that kind of recuperative ability would be awesome.
