Poa. Kill now, fast. I used Certainty on mine at the highest rate. Going to zap it again in a week. If not dead 4/5 days later I'm going to RU it.

Get your Dimension/Halts down and keep that barrier solid for your first year (consider an early summer drop as well as fall).

Thumbs up on that one. P. annua and P. trivialis are nothing to play with.

Even through my late-season pre-M, I got three or four growths of the stuff. Two are seriously hurting. One I'll get tomorrow as I just saw it this evening.

I think I have Certainty. So Round-Up or Certainty?

Thanks guys! ;)

Update: Just saw turf_toes' reply from the previous page. Looks like I should go with RoundUp. I remember someone told me that Certainty stunts the growth of KBG.

I'll do it tomorrow.

Ok, I've only rounded up about 40% of the light green grass. It's just so many. :( I've also applied RoundUp on all of the weeds. WOW, I am not sure if what I did is right. :( I forgot that I should have used WBG for the weeds and not RU. Sigh! :(

What are the other ways to eliminate those light green grass? They are just so close to each other. I felt like I was rounding up the whole lawn again. It's that bad.

I felt the same way. I believe our poa coverage is similar. I had to keep reminding myself how aggressive emblem is. Use WBG on the entire lawn, but only use the round up on the poa.

OUCH, I hate myself for using RU even on the weeds. :(
About the poa, there are tons really.

Morph, hopefully you'll see my message. I couldn't find my notes about fertilizer application for this year. I printed it but couldn't find it. So I spread Dimension the other day. I RUd the POAs and weeds. When should I put fertilizer down and which one?

simpson/nothing0, should I use the WBG garden hose end sprayer and can I use it now or should I wait mid April?

Gotta read the labels. RU is non selective meaning it will kill all weeds and grass, for that matter :banghead:

I think I just got so tired because the POAs were so close to each other. It's very obvious since the color is light green.

I'll head out tomorrow and buy WBG. Thanks!

You can buy wbg that hooks to the hose and it works great. Spray it as a light blanket over the whole lawn. As for the fertilizer are you using organic or synthetics? If organic you can use molorgnite or sbm anytime you want right now. If you want synthetics wait until late april or early may. What type of fertilizer do you have left over from last year? Just a couple off the top of my head turfbuilder, vigro supper green, Anything with a good first number your new lawn needs the fertilizer.

I use Certainty for Poa A and Poa T. I believe that I'm the one that said that Certainty will stunt KBG - but it's just a stoppage in growth for a couple of weeks. Nothing permanent. Note to anyone thinking of using Certainty: it is N-O-T for anyone that has a mixed grass lawn - it will kill PR dead as a doornail.

Certainty is not cheap, but even for those of us with an acre or more, the amount you buy (which is a 2" by 2" little bottle) is a lifetime supply.

I also found that Certainty kills a ton of other listed grasses, sedges and broadleaf weeds. Many are not listed as controlled, but it works on them. When I used it on the entire front lawn last year, the only weed that I have that seemed to have complete immunity to it was the stupid, common, ordinary everyday plantain. And they're so easy to kill with other things (or pluck) that I rolled my eyes.

@simpson - Ok, I will buy end hose weed sprayer. I still have milorganite. I will spread it when snow goes away.

@andy10917 - I have Certainty powder here. Can you please teach me how to prepare it? Also when to spread it?

Thanks! :)

Did you get the scoop in the package? If not, we need to do some precise weighing here, so let us know.

I'll RU a weed if I happen to have it in my hand--you just have to be real careful not to touch the surrounding grass, and to use a minimal amount. A drop or two is usually enough to kill anything (except P. annua and P. trivialis).

Don't worry too much about feeling like you're RU-ing the entire lawn. I started with trashcan-lid-sized holes all over the back yard. They filled in by the end of summer, and my P. annua incursion is now pretty minimal. A bit here, a bit there, but not like that. Those holes, hand-sized, fill by May and aren't that obvious in a growing lawn anyhow.

Yeah, it's powdery granules. And the amounts are frightenenly teensy. 1.25 oz will treat an acre of grass two and a half times. I'd tell you what the weight is, but my Certainty is on-loan to a friend at the moment, and I don't have it right now. So, listen to Morph - he has the all-important instructions that come with it too.

Here's a LINK to weeds treated by Certainty. Again, please note that TTTF and PR are explicitly on the list of things killed. You can add my mortal enemy (wild violets) to the list, even though they are not listed.

My personal experience is that Certainty works anytime the grass is growing, but the maker (Monsanto) says later fall is the best time to nuke Poa T. Don't look for results quickly - its 14-21 days to see it and the process is subtle.

Sorry folks, I had a very hard time finding it. Luckily today, I saw it.

@MorpheusPA, how do I measure it? I'm not sure how much granules I have right now.

@Andy, thanks for the link. That's awesome! BTW, my lawn is pure KBG.

I have a 2g sprayer. I always use it with RU or Eliminator(non selective herbicides). Should I buy a new one for Certainty use?

Here is my certainty.

I don't think that you need to buy a new sprayer, unless it has been sitting full of RoundUp all Winter. Others might disagree.

That much Certainty will kill alot of patches of Poa.

I have a different sprayer for each chemical, stuff that doesn't get used much goes into a smaller two gallon one, I have 3-4 gallon backpacks for stuff that gets used more often.
