Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)

I did some research again about putting too much fertilizer. I read that Urea should be applied at 2.2lbs per 1000 sqft. So I overdid it by 8 lbs. I guess that won't hurt them. If it did hurt them and leave an empty spot on some areas, they will still spread.

Looks great!
Don't worry about the weeds. You can deal with them in the spring.
When are you planning your last fertilizer application?

From the notes that Morpheuspa gave to me, last application should be around thanksgiving or when the top growth stops. I applied urea at full dose today. Should I still apply fertilizer in December?

That's a really cool calculator! However, it's a bit confusing. First page asked at what rate in pounds in 1000sqft do we like to use. So I put 2.2 lbs. Then after calculation, it's suggesting to apply 4.78 lbs per 1000 sqft. What's my error?

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
First time posting but have been reading the post about winterizing with great interest. The 2.2 lbs refers to the lbs of fert not the actual nitrigen you want to put down. In that box you should put in 1 lb and you come out with 2.2 lbs of fert.
Hope that helps.
The Urea example is pretty common but the calculator is handy when you have other quantities of nitrigen in the bag. For example the calc can help you get 1 lb of nitrigen if the mix in the bag is 32-4-12.

Cool!
So for folks in the cooler areas like me in Illinois, do we still need to put fertilizer in December? I've looked at some fertilization plans and I don't see December. Please confirm that I should be all set.
Thanks.

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Ron,
I think that depends on your weather. If the weather stays reasonable warm and your lawn is still green, I could see possibly putting it down -- if it's been at least six weeks since your last application. Two or three years ago, I was still cutting the grass in my area in early January. So, in that case, a December application doesn't seem like a bad idea.
But there is no one answer to your question. It just depends on your set of circumstances.

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Personally, I'd just hold it and wait. Topgrowth may still be going, but it's slow now, so nitrogen demands are lower. A few extra weeks won't hurt, although if you want to feed now that's also not going to hurt.
My last (Milorganite) feed was November 12th, I finished 2100 pounds of leaves a week later, and I'm holding everything waiting for the weather to finally turn.

It's still green
Just a quick update.
It rained a little yesterday and this morning. A very small part of the snow near the driveway melted. 95% of the grass that got exposed is still green.

Here it is. I should have taken it closer. The light leaf that you see is actually from a christmas pine tree that my neighbor threw.

Unusual January. I've never seen in my entire 10 years here in IL snow melting in January. Anyways, here is a picture I took today. The grass is still green but I also see other weeds that are still green

Look at that i had the same thing happen. We had almost 22 inches of snow i think it keep the heat in or something because when the rain came and washed all the snow away i had the greenest lawn on the block. It looked like the middle of summer it was great.
