How often do you fertilize your veggie plants?
This is my first year trying to grow a few fruits and veggies. I planted 3 tomato plants, five pepper plants and a grape vine the first week of April. They were ALL planted with the same soil mix, fertilizers and get a sprinkling of coffee grounds when I have them. They are watered the same.
Two of the three tomatoes are doing well and three of the five peppers are doing well. The others are not growing as fast and have not flowered. The ones not growing are in the same pot.
For those doing well, do i fertilize them again? How do I know what they need? Or do i just put an all purpose organic fert on them? How often do you fertilize your plants?
For the others, I will let them grow but if there is no fruit in a month, I will toss them. Can I put the soil mix from this container on the low spots in my lawn?
Thanks
K

From my expereince too close together and too much water is not good mainly peppers. they look a little jammed up. Also I noticed the pot there in is tapered at the bottom, not good for root growth. Deep and wide is better. is drainage good at the bottom?[/quote]

No. Both pots have the same drainage, etc. I am probably going to toss the peppers in a week. I was really hoping they could survive as they are planted.
Fools thinking I guess.
I am not sure about fertilizing. I have done nothing so far and two pots are fine. Do I add blood meal to the plants that are yellow and a general fert to the others? Some sites say give the plants something EVERY week, some say only after the plants bloom, etc. I'm confused even for the plants that are doing well.
Thanks

Peppers - toss em over here, I don't pot my plants I mix compost, manure- well aged, and sand in the garden.. Tomatoes require more nitrogen than peppers. so if there mixed in the same pot, you have a conflict. too much nitro.= Pepper Shrubs and no flowers. Re-pot, not too late.
