When Do You Blow Out The Irrigation System?

Postby andy10917 » October 1st, 2011, 5:44 pm

I noticed that blowing out the Irrigation System is on my October "To Do" list.

When do others blow out their systems and shut-down for Winter?

I usually coil up my irrigation system and hang it in the garage in early November!

Towards the end of october. I still use it for stupid things like watering in fertilizer or kelp help. Might shut it down early this year since we are getting more then enough rain.

Mid-October or so. Give or take. Around first frost, in other words.

LOL
Mine's been put away since July.
I think I watered three times this year.
And one of those times caused it to rain unexpectedly the next day. :)

I do mine after I apply urea in November. I like to water the urea in.

I've never blown it out, but this reminds me that I need to drain it.

I push it to mid-November so I can keep the leaves wet, water in the MO and urea, etc.

First year with my system - the company that installed it will be blowing it out on 10/28. Gives me time to water my overseed still, if needed (yay lots of rain lately)

Don't have irrigation in this house (on well) but up here it's typically before Nov 1st as any more than that and you'd definitely be risking that first hard freeze.
