The Opposite of Striping?

Postby andy10917 » June 18th, 2011, 1:35 pm

As I'm getting close to 4" height, I'm noticing that the mower wheel tracks are pretty prominent, and take days to go away.

I'm not into striping, but I'm looking for a way to remove wheel tracks. Is anyone aware of any devices that can be added to do this on a Honda mower?

I hate it as well. A leaf blower does not work to well for me.

I've heard of guys improvising a roller using a PVC pipe filled with sand. I don't know how they do it, but they attach it to the back of the mower, obviously behind the rear wheels, and it leaves a stripe. If you can suspend it off of the ground, the grass will bend a bit, but it shouldn't have that obvious striping effect that you don't care for.

This has got to be better than breaking out the leaf blower after you just cut the lawn.

Blower has to come out to clean off driveways and sidewalks anyway, so I just blow off the lawn while it is in my hands, removes all traces of wheel marks, and the stray leave or mulch chunk also- key is to try to get blower outlet low to the ground to blow ACROSS the tops of the grass blades.

This is one of the reasons I bought the SuTech; the tires are about 6 inches wide in back. That being said I haven't tried it at 4 (although at 3 the Honda still leaves wheel marks).

I've run the irrigation system for five minutes per zone to get rid of Myrtle's wheel and striping marks (I hate both).

Alternately, a blowdryer and a teasing comb. Let it be a challenge to your stylistic creativity. :-)

I have the same problem. Now I always mulch at 4 inch. The tire track
are just very hard to avoid.

I use soft rake to lightly rake it, combing the grass to undo the track.
Works wonders. It also helps if you did not use the self propel feature.
Although at 4 inch, it is hard to push the mower.

I know all-too-well about the raking. An acre is a lot of raking.

Here is your solution. One per plant per year while the are small. After 2-3 years there is enough of the stuff in the plants system that they stop (especially so with bulbs).

What if you could attach something like a wide broom behind your mower? It would be "erasing" the wheel marks as you go...

I dunno man, this is a strange question

That would only make the stripes wider.

Sorry Andy I don't think there is anyway around it.

I`m mowing at 3.5 inches with the 48" Exmark seems to leave stripes. I try and hit it with the blower, but who has the time, you have a acre. Normally after a day,or long afternoon the stripes go away. Grass is standing tall..Works for me

I find them "gimmicky". My lawn is my lawn, not the infield at Yankee Stadium. OK for others, not for me.

Well, I can't answer for anybody else. I like seeing a perfect green carpet with consistent color and blades all pointing up, not to the sides.

My mother likes a bit of striping and mows back and forth to get a little of it. To each his or her own, I guess.
