I've thatched my lawn in the past by renting a machine down at my local big orange box store, and it worked great. However, I was thinking that I could buy my own front or rear mount dethatcher and use my lawn tractor to do the job.

Does anyone have any experience with these types of units? How good of a job do they do at getting at least most of the thatch up?

I had a tow-behind dethatcher for my lawn tractor - the coil-spring type. It now sits outside the barn, rusting with its good buddy the tow-behind core aerator. I was unimpressed.

Don't say that. :( I was really hoping that a front mount (or tow behind) dethatcher would be a good option.....and another toy. :P
