Sprinkler Timer

Postby snachs » June 16th, 2010, 4:07 pm

I purchased the Orbit Yard Watering system (one that comes with two controls and can expand to 4) last year and it worked great. I stored it for the winter and just pulled it out last week (I've only watered twice) to discover that the controller doesn't work well anymore. The "off" icon doesn't show up on the display and when I set it to manual water for 2 minutes, it clicks to open the valve but never closes it.

I went to the big box stores and it seems like it is not carried by many any more and those who had it priced it over $60. I only need the controller and not two new valves. I'm hesitant to spend the cash again if it's only going to last me one season. I know others here recomended it highly.

So....any other recommendations? What are people using and happy with? With how little I'm watering, I think I could even get away with a single valve and I'll shift it for the second zone.

Mine didn't work at first this season either. Cycle it a few times and see it it loosens up. I chalked my problem up to calcium deposits.

I just walked in the door from my local Lowes store, while there I eyed up the exact same orbit 2 valve {expandable to 4 valve} timer system- blue controller, it was priced at $47.XX. Now I would never suggest you to go to your Lowes store and purchase another unit, and put your old cleaned up one in the new packaging and return it,saying it did not work, for a cash refund,but.......

been there done that.. how about a damn 2k macbook thats like brand new and the power charging cable (it has little spring tines for contact inside the magnet area) those got stuck in and wouldnt charge my computer. I even kept the little plastic cap on the cord when not in use. So I said this is BS went and bought another 90 charger took it back and said this aint working showed them whats wrong. I get tired of paying good money for stuff and it being complete junk. I have absolutly no problem splurging on a item if its going to do/last like it should. but when something is babied and darn near brand new and it quits working it gets old!
Thanks in Advance,

James

I feel your pain- it seems damn near impossible to purchase quality items anymore, even when you pay extra for hopefully better made goods. Within the last year or so, I have wasted $300 on a dehumidifier that lasted 3-4 months, heath/zenith outdoor motion lights that crapped out early, high quality hoses that kink if you look at them, headlamp bulbs that die within a few months, christmas light strings {GE} that didnt last through a single season......the list goes on and on, cant seem to find much quality items, despite the brand name or higher cost than the lowest provider.
