Sprayers

Postby Seven333 » August 27th, 2010, 9:10 pm

I may be in the market for a sprayer eventually and wanted to gather some info. It would probably be used for some soil conditioner, raw milk (just found a source about 5 miles from my house! Gotta love the Amish!), pre-m, etc. I have about 30k sf of lawn, more if I ever get the basin under control. No idea how much these things cost but I'm open to anything at this time. Backpack, hand held, hose end, whatever. Thanks!

30k? Nothing less than a backpack if you plan on using this on a regular basis. Maybe even consider a towable with 60 inch boom.

Hand-held? MUWAHAHAHAHAHA

If you're thinking about back pack sprayers check out the SP0 from SP Systems. It is awesome. I got one last winter and have used it to spray all kinds of stuff on the lawn. It has a built in agitator to keep the stuff mixed up in the tank, which is handy when you're spraying stuff like humic acid and kelp since they tend to settle to the bottom of the tank.

Definitely consider a 3 nozzle boom. It let's you cover a 5' wide path at a time.

Prices for this sprayer are all over the board from under $150 to over $200.

30,000 SF by hand? ... Oi Vey! Even with a backpack - mazeltov!

I'd use my pop's old Hudson 3hp tank sprayer

... and if you are handy, a boom sprayer is easy to make yourself. Some old baby buggy wheels, conduit, some hose, a shut off value and some fan tip T-Jets.

Thanks guys! Not sure a towable sprayer is in the budget, nor do I have the room for one in the shed. I'm not opposed to taking the time with a large backpack unit...I've divided my yard into workable chunks, i.e. back yard is 7k sf, front is 3k, etc. What features should I look for in a good unit?

By the way, I bought some raw milk and it is wonderfully tasty! Pretty affordable too...$3 a gallon.

For most things, a tank of backpack spray can cover 5000 sq.ft. That is a lot of refills for you! I second Ohio2112's rec of SP Systems SP0 with agitator, or I've had good luck with my Shurflo SRS-600 electric. A 3-nozzle boom like that made by SP Systems is almost mandatory!

I have about 8000square feet and use the Stihl SG20 backpack sprayer. I use it for spraying my grass and for my 20 roses.

I think the your yard size is def doable with a backpack, but it is going to be a ton of work.
