Self propelled - Lawn size

Postby Michael Wise » October 12th, 2011, 10:12 pm

For all you guys/gals that push or walk behind a mower on a "large" lawn, couple questions.

How big is your lawn?

What width is your mower?

And how long does it take?

About 5,500 sq. ft. in 4 different sections, 33" width mower, about 35 minutes of pure mowing, down from about 50 with the 21" Honda. Trim/blow etc. adds another 30 minutes or so.

What do you attribute the decrease in mowing time?

Wider mower? Or because the mower is more powerful and allows you to maintain faster pace?

50% wider cut. If I had a more rectangular property I could get done in 20-25 minutes. Its all the curves/slopes/sections/swingset that slows me down.

Thank you very much for your help!

I'm trying to figure how long a walk behind will keep me in the yard per mowing. I want a walk behind powered reel so bad I can't stand it. :D

7500sqft total 21" Honda HRR216 self propelled with clutch blade stop (stops the blade without killing the motor) takes probably 45 minutes and thats going around all my river rock up bordering the house. "NOT" including edging time around the rock

If I wanted to run and get it quick just give it more throttle though, that darn honda could pull me around the lawn lol
Thanks in Advance,

James

33,000 sq ft of lawn out of 1.1 acres. I have no idea how long it takes, since I never do it twice the same way. Sometimes it's all Honda 21", sometimes it's front yard Honda and backyard tractor, and when I'm feeling energetic I cut the front 1/4" high and then hit it with reel mower (push).

Do I recall mention of you mowing the whole shebang with the push reel?

9,000 sq ft, 25 inch Tru-Cut reel mower about 45-60 minutes depending which direction I mow, not many obstacles.

MQ, what type of ground speed are you able to maintain with your Tru-Cut? Normal walk? Brisk walk? Jog? :D

Not too many: Three bushes, a small ornamental tree and one 8' x 16' flower bed are the only real obstacles.
The rest of it is pretty much straight lines.

About 7000 sqft front yard, 60-90 mins using my 21" manual push mulcher or manual reel mower. For 16,000 sqft rear yard, about 2-3 hrs using push mower. Depends how fast I want to walk, I tend to go slower for best cut as well as trying to make the experience last. For some crazy reason mowing the grass is like yoga for me, very relaxing and helps clear my head. Sometimes I do the front twice, the second time from a different angle to improve cut and mulching effect, never done the back twice in a row though.
