Pump sprayers?
Every season i go thew pump sprayers like crazy. I mess them up or someone takes it and never brings it back. Or i don't like the spray pattern so i throw it away. I would really like to get a good 2 gallon pump sprayer. One that has a wide even spray pattern. I would also like to get some trace dye as well. I have used them before but can not find one that works well.
Gary i know you talked about one pump sprayer before but i can not find your thread on it.

Re: Pump sprayers?
I am a big fan of SP Systems sprayers. I wish I got the SP0 backpack like Ohio2112 has (instead of my leaky Solo). I do have the SP Systems 2 gallon sprayer Yardtender (off amazon) and it is the freaking bomb. It comes with an adjustable brass cone tip but I use it with a fan tip (teejet) I got from the local Tractor Supply. Once you prime this thing, it is good for an insane amount of time. I do love my electric backpack sprayer though (Shurflo SRS-600). If spot spraying, a 2 gal would be fine. If blanketing, consider a backpack. It sounds like you will need good spray equipment for Tenacity.

Click here for more information All metal sprayer valve, wand and nozzle. In fact it comes with a TeeJet nozzle. Clean it and it will last a lifetime because the seals can be renewed - Click here for more information

Re: Pump sprayers?
I looked at a few stainless ones and some reviews said that the inner parts rust and cause problems.

I've been eye-balling this one for a bit. Brass wand, replaceable gaskets, etc...

I have used that Hudson valve and gotta say I absolutely hate it! I have no problem replacing a wand every 5 years than have to use the Hudson. Heck, the maintenance kit for it costs almost as much as a new wand! The universal wand they sell at Tractor supply costs $15 and is a joy to use. I own several, the oldest being 3 years and no problems so far.

Re: Pump sprayers?
The last sprayer I had was from tractor supply it worked great but I did not lime the tip on it. The brass on the wand must be thin because I put a hole in it some how after two uses. I think it happend from snaping the wand into re holder on the side. If I knew they sold replacement wands there I would have not thown it away

Re: Pump sprayers?
The sprayers at Tractor Supply are JUNK. They do have some nice sprayer parts though: universal wand/trigger, TeeJet tips, plastic and stainless mesh filters. I bought 80:20 surfactant, blue dye marker, and tank neutralizer/cleaner there too. I would rather pay more for a nice sprayer that is a joy to use and built to last longer. Most require lubing the seals periodically and the better ones have seal kits. If the wand, cannot accept standard teejet tips, I don't want it. If we are going to be spraying Tenacity or iron routinely, it is money well spent. Kind of like getting an Earthway 2150 spreader or some cheap box store model--huge difference although both can get the job done.

Why? What feature didn't you like?

There is no handle per se. You kind of hold the end of the hose with the hose clamp on the end. It kept on wanting to twist on me because of the thickness/memory of the hose. The trigger feels loose (and iirc spins around) and the unit would dribble from the tip after I let go of the trigger. It just felt like I was using an old relic or ghetto setup--I used it a few times and removed it. This was several years ago but the design hasn't changed. I refuse to believe that any pro would want to use this--I don't care if it survives 100 years! In contrast, the sp systems wand feels great to hold. So does the universal wand from Tractor Supply. They both perform great! The Solo wand sucks but only because the wand part is too flexible--the other two are metal. i guess to each his own.
I also don't see the benefit of metal-bodied tank sprayers. To me they just add weight.

No, that's not good ... and my biggest complaint using the plastic valved units.

100% agreement.
One of these days I'll get off my lazy behind and make something for myself.
With a 2 wheeler / hand truck / dolly ... mount a 12V battery, cheap trickle charger and a 5 gallon tank going into a 12V pump . 50' of hose on a simple reel. Continuous flow - spray away.

Re: Pump sprayers?
I'm sure some of you saw this inexpensive one on Amazon. Good reviews but it has plastic nozzles (wonder if I could fit a brass one on there?) I thought it might be decent for spraying iron. Anyone own it or will I be guinea pig?

edit: Just found the above company's eBay store store and after checking his feedback they have sold a lot of them and I didn't see any negative feedback (on the spray in question) , I think I am gonna get one.

Re: Pump sprayers?
I am still scared to pull the trigger and buy one. I just don't know what to get. Stainless steel body or plastic body. I sure don't want to drag a 30 lb sprayer around. And backpack sprayers are to big for my yard.

For spot-spraying, I got the cheap $6 sprayer from Home Depot. Plastic. When it breaks? Throw it out and buy a new one. My other one gallon is also cheap plastic and at least five years old.

Re: Pump sprayers?
All I can add to this discussion is stay away from Solo Piston pump sprayers - the piston mechanism is total junk.....
The whole piston assembly on mine fragged on it's 3rd use.... The design is just hinky - no way it will hold together the way it's designed..... Not buying anything else made by Solo - I can tell you that for sure!
Thanks

Re: Pump sprayers?
Funny you should mention Solo. I was at Costco when I see this sweet-looking Solo 2gallon sprayer for $20. The hose was kind of small but the wand look great and could fit teejet tips on the end. The tank looked good too--far better than the Home Depot or Lowes special. Then I pull out the piston handle and what do I see? The pump piston rod is made of plastic and not steel. What a waste! Would have been a nice score otherwise.

Still trying to pin down a good sprayer. I've looked at most of the ones on this thread and then some.

Re: Pump sprayers?
I bought another SP SYSTEMS yardtender--this time 3 gal since I wanted to use it for blanket spraying Tenacity. Sprayed my entire hellstrip (~750sqft?) without having to repump. The sweetness I say.
