Mowing on a slope

Postby jglongisland » September 17th, 2011, 10:29 am

I was at a high-end country club last night and noticed that have beautifully mowed KBG on slopes that are at least 45 degrees, if not greater. There is no way this was cut with a line trimmer. It was about 2.5 inches high.

Any idea how they do that?

They have those big mowers where the tractor is on flat ground and the mower hangs off the side of it. At least that is what I have seen workers on the side of the road using.

Probably a Wright Stander. Standers can handle slopes pretty well.

I was at a civil war national historic site and saw that they had a remote controlled riderless mower the size of a camry. It was parked at the foot of a big embankment like you describe. My brother and I spent more time looking at that thing than in the museum.

If you are talking about the slopes around the greens and tees they probably used a mower like the Toro Groundsmaster 3500-D Click here for more information

Or some courses just use a 21" walk behind on those areas.

That's qutie a mower. I 21" would be a challenge on the slope I saw. I guess it could be done.

Ha! I was browsing the forum and an advertisement for a slope mower came up. Although it only says up to 30 degrees which isn't that impressive:
