"Jumping" the belgian block...

Postby jglongisland » September 8th, 2011, 10:52 pm

One of the biggest problems with my SuTech is that it weights 350 lbs, with most of the weight on the rear wheels. Getting the best off the driveway and on to the lawn is a real challenge as I have Belgian block I have to "climb over" in three places.

I was thinking that someone must have come up a simple "chock or ramp" that the landscape guys must use as those Exmark/Walker jobs I see all around are much heavier than my mower.

You could try a storage shed ramp or curb ramp. Check Amazon.com for pre-made ones. I think if it is only 350 pounds you could make one out of 2x4's and plywood also. If you search for storage shed ramp, you will find plenty of instructions on how to build the wood one.

If you want something more heavy duty you could weld diamond plate onto some metal braces.

I decided to take a 2x4 under a 2x6 to make a simple ramp, something to get over the hump. I have some extra wood lying around from when I had to build a wheelchair ramp for a family member.

Here is my KISS setup that would make Andy proud. It works beautifully and the best part is I can lay it on top of the mower along that flat section atop the rear wheels. It fits perfectly on the mower in the garage and when going up and down the driveway. When I get to the grass I put it down where I need it and then just put it back on the mower when I head up to the garage.

I didn't use them yet, its nice and quiet out here on Saturday and I didn't want to be "that guy" who disturbs the tranquility. I'll mow Monday afternoon. By then the grass should have really dried out nicely.

I was out walking around and i was sinking into the dirt. Depending if we get this rain you might not be able to mow Monday.
