Irrigation Controller Recommendation
Can anyone recommend a controller? I have a toro which runs 7 zones. I would like one that has nonvolatile memory and has a soak mode. The higher end Hunters have these features, but would prefer not spend 300 dollars.

Re: Irrigation Controller Recommendation
Way too personal a choice for random recommendations. I have the Irrigation Caddy and love it, because I can change the programming in 30 seconds from my computer anywhere in the world (I live in NY, but work in Boston). I can program it from my Droid.
Get ALL your requirements listed, and then we can help you narrow the list. And yes, price point gets listed as a requirement.

Thank you for the recommendation Andy. I will check it out. That sounds like a long train ride. I use to work for a company in Natick.

I'm in Lexington, Mass right now - it's a 3.5 hour rocket ride on Mondays (to) and Thursdays (from). It gives the RX-8 a good workout - there are long stretches I can go 90 mph safely.

ooo, an RX-8. '07 Mazda6 here. I still haven't been able to get a good fun run between the Bear Mountain Bridge and Route 9 without traffic. (off topic, sorry)

Re: Irrigation Controller Recommendation
I have only had one irrigation system which was in the house when we moved in which was July 2010. I think the features that I want are:
1) nonvolatile memory
2) soak mode
3) >= 7 zones
4) 2 programs (1 is once a week during the summer which includes all of the zones and 2 is probably once a week for only 2 zones. I need to augment my water along the sidewalk which is south facing).
5) rain sensor
6) freeze sensor
7) I would prefer the cost of controller and sensor(s) not to exceed 250.
8) internet features are neat, but a nice to have.
I am not sure if I am leaving anything out. I am a relative newbie to controllers.
Andy that is a long commute. I bet it is fun to roll the speedometer up there.

Shay,
If you are interested, you can take a look at my post here:

If you don't mind writing some script or code, you can use the Irrigation Caddy
hook up to your home wireless/LAN. Then have some server to control it at
home. I use a Linksys router with Linux in it. You can use some home server
if you happen to have one. The Irrigation Caddy cost you about $140. The
the rest of requirement is just a little bit of programming. You can go to some
weather site to get rain and freeze data. In other worlds, internet is your
sensor.

Re: Irrigation Controller Recommendation
Shay, I have an old Toro controller with 6 zones that control only the front and side yards. I've been thinking about upgrading for a while and covering the backyard too. I'd be interested in any controller research, opinions or conclusions you have if you are willing to share via this post or a PM. Thx

I have a Hunter ProC controller. It seems to be the norm around here. Works great for me.

I have an old Rain Dial that came with my house. It does the job, but that Irrigation Caddy gives the nerd in me chills. I need to save for that and a pair of earrings, because my wife is going to punch me in the nose if I spend any more on the lawn right now.

I have looked at the pro c. My only reason for not buying it is the lack of soak feature. With the pro c, could I rerun the same program to make up for the lack of ask feature?
