how bad is sprinkling over the sidewalk?

Postby eriocaulon » July 22nd, 2011, 12:28 am

So my hellstrip in front of the sidewalk is unirrigated. Even with TTTF, it is taking a beating and really needs some irrigation. I have resorted to diverting some of the front rotors (HUNTER PGP) to cover the hellstrip by shooting over the sidewalk. I changed the nozzles to higher flowing ones to compensate for the increased coverage.

Q: I know this is kind of inconsiderate to those who may be walking the sidewalk. How bad a foul is it? Should I not do it or will people understand? I think it is possible to walk the sidewalk without getting sprayed if you get the timing right--but that may just be my rationalization.

I've played the Dodge The Sprinkler game and it doesn't bother me. Of course, I'm not 80 with a bad hip...

Around me the city requires a $1000.00 bond to install anything on their side of the walk. Plenty of people water that grass from their side of the sidewalk and spray across it. As long as you water in the early morning before the sun comes up, I don't think anyone will care. It isn't that hard to cross the street near you is it?

Generally speaking it is no problem, or at least until someone files a complaint.

Would a soaker hose work?

If I had a hell strip with a sidewalk running through it, I'd do the same damn thing.

If you have an HOA and/or bored neighbors, they might not be as understanding as I am.

I've seen a couple of people time it just right so they DO get wet. Especially when the heat is cranking. I can't imagine someone around here getting grumpy because they have to walk in the street a bit to stay dry. But I live on a very low traffic side street. On a busy street it might be a different story.

On your street I wouldn't think twice.

Why wouldn't they run irrigation to the hellstrip when the rest of the yard was set up?

I was out testing sprinklers last night and the kids seem to eat it up. I warned them "Hey buddy I dont want to get you and your bike soaked I'm going to fire this sprinkler up", he replied. Well what are you waiting for I've been waiting for you to turn it on lol. he rode through there like 30 times. lol
Thanks in Advance,

It boggles my mind the people that walk by my house while the sprinklers are running and have no idea until they get hit. They're freakin impact sprinklers. Stop walking and texting.
