hose end sprayers help

Postby hutchanne » August 23rd, 2011, 5:30 am

I have 2 hose end sprayers. I want to spray Roundup on unwanted grass. Covering 2,ooo sq.ft. Roundup states 6oz per gallon. How do I use my Hudson 2104 or my Flo Master sprayers. I can't fiqure out how to measure for the 2,ooo sq.ft. or just a smaller area of 600 sq.ft. I have 3 separate areas to cover. I have search everywhere on goggle. No help. Any suggestions..Thanks, I have tried my tank sprayer, but takes forever to use for this area. Thanks

When looking at the numbers on top where you turn the knob they are 21/15/6/3? I have never used a wet dry sprayer so im not sure what number to use. Let me ping morph. I think I know but I want to make sure.

It's the gallons to dry measurement on the wet side. 21 gal, 15 gal, and so on.

Under the Instructions tab at this link is how to use that: Click here for more information

If that's not clear let me know and I'll try to clarify it further.

I did have those instructions but couldn't figure how to make the correct amount of Roundup for 900 sq ft or even 1,000 sq.ft. Roundup calls for 6oz per gallon for 300 sq.ft. I made 16 oz pour into jar and then didn't know which number to use...15 gallons or more or less. First, I did use the 3 gallon mark, but that was way too strong and dispensed at a fast rate almost spraying 3 oz in a minute or two...So, if using this sprayer should I just make 15 gallon mark and spray area until all is gone...even not knowing how long that would take? Just asking???thanks again, but I may just go and buy a dial ortho hoseend sprayer...Wow...East coast and more had an eathquake..Did anyone feel it? Hope all is safe..

Depends on what you'll want to make. If you want 3 gallons of solution (sufficient for 900 square feet for Round up), you'd put 18 ounces of Round Up concentrate in the sprayer, fill the water level to the 3 mark, set the sprayer at 3, and spray over 900 square feet--which means moving quite quickly!

Personally, I don't find these to be the best sprayers for this kind of thing. I can drain the 3 mark in no time flat on setting #3. For this, you may wish to pick up an Ortho sprayer which will work better.

Thanks again. The dial ortho did the same thing..too fast. You are right..I'm going back to my pump tank sprayer. It will be slow, but I'm tired of wasting or using all this Roundup. To be honest, I have been organic for 5 years, but I needed to kill some creeping fescue or creeping bent under my trees. The grass would die in July and look terrible. I'm overseeding with Defender fescue and my KBG. I have trimmed the trees and hope this will grow. Thanks Morph...you're always a great help..

Too bad the answer isn't a good one in this case... Hose-ends pump six gallons a minute (well, up to, 2 to 3 is more normal) and that's a lot of water.

Your pump sprayer is a gallon in 20 minutes or so, and delivers sufficient chemical over a much wider area. Less waste, plus less stress on the environment (both of which I approve of).
