Calibrating a backpack sprayer
So you have a small yard and you need to apply your herbicide ACCURATELY ???? this is how you do it with a pump up sprayer.
facts:
1 acre = 43,560 ft2
1gallon=128 ounces
1/128th of an acre= 340 square feet
-Measure a section 8' x 42.5 ' (with a tape not your feet) fill your sprayer with water
-spray the area as if your were applying an herbicide at a normal pace recording your time w a stopwatch
-spray into a bucket at for the same amount of time it took you to spray the 340 square feet
-The number of ounces collected equals the gallons per acre coverage using your backpack sprayer
example: time to spray the plot =15 seconds
15 seconds sprayed in the bucket = 30 ounces
30 ounces=30 gallons per acre
43,560/30 gallons=1452 square feet per gallon
4 gallon backpack sprayer covers 5805 square feet.

I like that method, I measured out 950 sq. ft. when I did mine.

Re: Calibrating a backpack sprayer
Makes sense..
Wizards please check my work:
I mix Eject at a rate of .38 oz per gallon
That means 1.52 oz. (con.) per 4 gallon backpack sprayer.
ADD MSO at 1 OZ per gallon (so it says)
So 4 oz of MSO Per backpack
Am I missing anything?

Have you calibrated the sprayer itself (i.e, gallons/acre or gallons/thousand sq. ft.)?

Re: Calibrating a backpack sprayer
justin the math you did was for 4000ft2 as if your sprayer treats one gallon per 1000ft2 ..you still have to calibrate your sprayer first then re do your math based on the square footage your particular sprayer covers.
