True. During the (short) renovation season, tacky doesn't matter. It's on a dead lawn currently, anyway, and strictly temporary.

Post that, it'll go away. The buried hose trick is more for a semi-permanent installation and not in the cards right now anyway--it's as expensive as doing a full irrigation system anyhow, and requires the connectors for the pop-up sprinklers, the sprinklers, funny pipe (or connectors of another type) and a variety of bits and pieces and parts.

yea 80% of the neighbors have no room to talk about tacky lol its more of the tacky to myself but I see what you mean. Specially during germination! I'll give that a whirl so I'm not out there 2-4 times a day dragging hoses out everytime. and I bought these timers for a reason might as well use them right?

Exactly. If my neighbor can have six foot tall statues (plural) in his front yard, he can tolerate my hoses for a few weeks. :-)

Just consider the area your private little "construction zone"......normal to have hoses, wiring, machinery, etc on every "job site", right?

i was speaking to my next door neighbor earlier and she was complimenting me of my ingenious sprinkler system and hose bridges. she was even thanking me for the lush green growth of her lawn bordering my lawn due to the slight overspray i did on purpose so that i'm sure the edges get hit with the water.

the only thing i wish for is that my timers can be controlled via wifi or something, so i don't have to go outside for a quick water to scare birds away or spot watering.

Yessir I'll be wearing my hard hat and safety glasses while adjusting sprinklers. That should get the neighbors thinking some lol

You mean "Hoarders?" I love that show. It's so delightfully disastrous but without blood, guts, or gore. I appreciate that. Being married to a shrink, it's doubly fun as we never watch it together and reports Are Not Appreciated. :-)

At least it proves I'm merely slightly messy occasionally.

Yellow tape is a good idea for a reno to try to keep people off. It's not 100%, but helps. I was seriously tempted to put up signs that read, "Chemical Accident, Remediation in Progress." That should keep 'em off, but I wouldn't need the hassle the township would have given me.

I thought about a few signs reading "lawn infested with deer ticks" treatment in progress.

I vote for the Gilmour Pattern Master. It's very awesome.

Speaking of people walking on the lawn... We frequently get contractors trying to get us to get "free" siding/roofing/windows etc due to some random storm or something... so annoying. Anyway.. this dude comes to my house and starts into his little speech... I said, sorry bro...I'm feeding my son can't talk. 10 minutes later he comes back and is like, 'Is now a good time'. I said, No, I'm not interested, do I need a 'No Solicitation' sign so you won't ever come back? So he walks away... RIGHT ONTO MY NEWLY SEEDED LAWN. I said, dude, get off the lawn I just planted seed. Wanted to punch him right in the head. Not only is he ringing my doorbell but then he walks on the lawn too... people are DUMB.

Most renovators break the tacky look during renovation....just look at all the roping off of the lawns with "caution tape" and poles!!! In 3 weeks, all your neighbors will forget the hoses {if they really even take time to notice them} and be in awe of the long lasting results!!!!!!!

I have a neighbor that has basically built a fence along the street out of rebar and yellow rope.. Been that way for the almost 2 years I have been living here.. Not sure why he has it up, unless his weed infested yard is some protect wildlife sanctuary...

Well, I got my pattern master a few weeks ago...

Just wanted to say that I like it very much for an inexpensive impact sprinkler ($20 shipped from amazon or available locally at Ace Hardware) It easily adjusts to throw the water at certain distances while it's goin' around. Also handy since is the "set it and forget it". I really don't have to tinker with it, just remember where I placed it last time and it's good to go! Thanks for the recommendation to Morph and the others.
